R100 Cafe Racer
A friend (Alan) and I have aquired a 1981 BMW R100CS which we plan to rebuild into a cafe racer.
We collected the bike from a fellow "Wild Dog" in Cape Town, loaded it on the trailer and took it back to the workshop. Once back in the workshop we had time to really check out the bike and although there is a fair amount of corrosion everything is there and looks in order.
OK so before we begin to strip down the and/or modify the bike it has to be prepared for roadworthy and change of ownership. After 2 weeks of preparation the bike was ready and Alan took the bike through roadworthy and has registered it onto his name, congratulations on your new bike Alan. Now where's my angle grinder....
So now the fun begins, deciding what we are going to modify and how. First we need to start striping the bike and while we busy cut the frame and manufacture bits as we going along. I wish i had done a welding course somewhere along the line ...
Manufacturing the bits we want to-do is not always as easy as it looks but we have decide we do as much as possible ourselves and use the professionals only when essential. So here goes ...
